The Coppell Cowgirls (0-1 in District 5-5A) are set to take on the fundamentally sound Flower Mound Jaguars (1-1 in District 5-5A) for their second district game on Friday night.
After a tough game against Hebron on Tuesday, March 18, the Cowgirls ended down by two with a final score of 9-7.
The game was a back and forth battle between Hebron and Coppell.
As Hebron went to bat first, they scored four runs in the top half of 1st inning. Coppell responded by scoring two in the bottom half and another three in the bottom half of the third, to take the lead.
Then the Cowgirl’s pitching and defense was unable to keep the Hawks from crossing home plate. Hebron tacked on four runs in the 5th inning to put the game away.
According to senior captain Katy Bryan, the Cowgirl’s defense did not hold up.
“Even though no balls were hit past the infield,” Bryan said “We need to work on our fielding better, specifically defending the bunt.”
The girls are ready to get back on track as they take on the Jaguars.
“We can definitely hang in there with them,” Bryan said. “Flower Mound is a solid all around team, [the Jaguars] have a really good hitting and defensive team. ”
The Cowgirls will face off against Flower Mound, Friday night at 7:00 pm. at the Cowgirl Softball Complex at Coppell Middle School West.
