UPDATE: Dripping Springs ISD Board of Trustees officially approved the hiring of Joe McBride on Monday night.
Coppell Cowboys football head coach Joe McBride is leaving Coppell High School after five years to become the next head coach at Dripping Springs High School.
Per conversation with Coppell ISD Athletics Director John Crawford, McBride has verbally accepted the position of head football coach at Dripping Springs, a Class 4A program located in the Hill Country near Austin.
In an email, McBride said that his wife’s family is the main reason he is leaving.
“It’s been about me and my career for 25 years,” McBride said. “It’s time I put her first.”
McBride leaves the Cowboy program with a 50-10 record at the school, three district championships, and four trips to the playoffs in his five years at the helm of the Coppell football team.
Crawford said that McBride, who left for Dripping Springs on Friday morning, is expected to be formally approved by the school board on Monday night.
