Early this morning, the class of 2010 took the classic panoramic picture. Despite the frigid cold and short sleeve shirts for most, we had to stand there and endure a gentler form of cruel and unusual punishment.
Now I fully understand that administrators could not control the weather, however, I fail to see the point in mandating uniform attire. For most who failed to wear a long sleeve white or black shirt, they were made to take off protective hoodies that could have spared them a cold or two.
Furthermore, it seems a bit ridiculous to expect that the senior class identify by the same clothes or organizations, i.e., football players in letter jackets and Lariette’s in red jackets. After all, we are usually castigated for being cliquish and in a moment where we are supposed to be as one in the senior class, we truly are made to show our factions.
What peeved me by far though was the “social hierarchy” esque formation of the picture. As a lariette, I kept questioning why I was put in the front row. Why were cheerleader officers lining it alongside us as well? As put by a friend, we are all paying the same amount for the same picture, thus why put some ahead of others? In my opinion, if a holistic view of the senior class was important, we would have been equally dispersed despite any organizations we were involved in.
Essentially, this is just a little food for thought. Agree or disagree on the other stances, I believe there’s a pretty common consensus on one thing: we froze.
