The most anticipated rap album of the year, “Nothing Was The Same”, has finally been released to the public. The original set date for Drake’s third album was Sept. 24 but was instead leaked via Twitter on Sept. 15-nine days before it was set to drop.
The album aspects 16 tracks, including his latest singles “Started From the Bottom” and “Hold On, We’re Going Home,” which have already been on the radio since Sept. 12, and were what had made Drake’s fans impatient for the actual release.
The last three albums of Drake’s have all been leaked days before their official release. His first, “Thank Me Later”, was leaked June 1, 2010; 14 days before. “Take Care’s” date for release was Nov. 15, 2011, but like “Nothing Was The Same”, was released nine days before.
Drake’s fans just can not get enough of him and his catchy and memorable lyrics.
The first song on the album is six minute “Tuscan Leather”. An auto-tuned woman’s voice sings in the background along with the beats – the producers of the song fast forwarded and rewinded the woman’s sound to make the beat unique and different, and that is just what the song sounds like-unique. Immediately once the beat drops it makes you want to start bobbing your head, and listen to what Drake has to say.
The must-listen songs are “Wu Tang Forever,” “From Time” featuring Jhene Aiko, “Hold On We’re Going Home” featuring Majid Jordan and “Too Much” featuring Sampha. These four songs make you want to hit the replay button over and over again.
In “From Time”, Jhene Aiko’s calm and mysterious voice heard in her lyrics makes you want to understand what she is talking about, “I love me, I love me enough for the both of us. That’s why you trust me, I know that you’ve been through more than most of us.” Her voice is so intriguing; you want to start the song over again just to hear those words and her sound. The same is in “Too Much” featuring Sampha.
The song starts with Sampha singing, “Don’t think about it too much, too much, too much, too much, there’s no need for us to rush it through” After that Drake starts rapping about reaching his goal of becoming the best rapper in the game and discusses his family issues he is currently dealing with.
This is why I love Drake.
His raps are not just about girls and money, but personal issues, love and life all at the same time. This fact about him is what gained Drake’s fans attention and why he has become as successful as he is now.
I highly advise everyone to go check out “Nothing Was The Same” and buy the hard copy at your nearest store on Sept. 24, you will not regret it.
