The Coppell basketball team took a huge hit recently, losing three top-flight seniors when they broke unspecified team rules. When asked, Coach Chasteen was only able to say that the three would be suspended for three weeks, essentially ending their careers at Coppell High School.
The team will lack leadership in the wake of these top senior’s suspensions. It will also lose more tangible production, as one of the players in question was the team’s leading rebounder and co-captain, known around District 6-5A as a physical presence in the post. The team suffered greatly in their first game without the players, losing against district foe Lewisville 51-45.
“All three of those guys are good kids who have had good careers,” Coach Chasteen said. “I can only say that they violated team rules and the district policy calls for suspension.”
The Cowboys already were playing shorthanded after an injury to captain Andrew Bourg, and now the team must carry on with only three seniors on the team. They play Flower Mound next in hopes to regain control and confidence going forward in district play.
