Dr. Jeffrey Turner was named superintendent of Coppell Independent School District on May 9, 2002. He began his eleventh year of service to the district in the summer of 2012.
Turner has 34 years of experience in public education. He started his career as a middle school science teacher in the Clear Creek Independent School District before taking an administrative role in 1984 in Van ISD. He has served as superintendent since 1991 in three other school districts including Burleson, Jacksonville and Van.
Dr. Turner has served on various boards throughout his career and as a mentor superintendent for the Texas Association of School Administrators. He is currently the President of the TASA organization. Among his many accomplishments, he was selected as the Texas AASA Superintendent of the Year for 2012.
Originally from Deer Park, Texas, Dr. Turner earned his bachelor’s and doctoral degrees from Baylor University. He received his master’s degree in educational administration from the University of Houston, Clear Lake Campus. Dr. Turner’s parents, who were both educators, inspired him to explore public education. It continued through his wife, a retired high school counselor, and older daughter who is in her ninth year of teaching in the area. His youngest daughter also launched her career in education as a licensed Texas attorney who practices school law in Austin.
