Yolanda Edwards serves as the Coppell High School counselor for grades 10-12, covering last names Lu-Pr. Although she moved to Coppell in July 2011, the 2012-13 school year is her first in our district.
Edwards grew up in Shreveport, La. and earned a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Grambling State University and a master’s degree in Counseling from Texas A&M Commerce. Previously, she worked for five years as a high school social studies teacher with SPED (Special Education) certification in Dallas Independent School District. She transitioned into a counseling position eight years ago.
“My passion is helping students,” Edwards said. “I enjoy the psychological and future-oriented aspects of my job equally. My main objective is getting students to the next level, whether that is emotionally or through college plans.”
Although helping students is an instrumental part of being a counselor, Edwards also recognizes the importance of confidentiality, organization and timeliness.
“I want my students to understand they can count on me to prepare them for college in an orderly fashion,” Edwards said.
Besides contributing to the growth of students, one of the most significant elements of living in the DFW area for Edwards is the proximity of the Dallas Cowboys. She is a die-hard football fan and even twirled in Superbowl XXXII as a member of the Grambling State University band.
Edwards could not be happier to be supporting Coppell High School students, citing the support of our community as an overwhelmingly positive influence.
“Coppell has a terrific community feel,” Edwards said. “I am fortunate to be exposed to the supportive public, faculty and students here.”
