The 6-9 Coppell Cowgirls came out with a big victory against the Kimball High School lady
Knights on Friday Dec. 7 at Kimball.

Coppell played very well defensively and won the game by the final score of 62-46. Junior
post Jaidyn Philips led the scoring with a total of 17 points. Senior guard Sydney Overman also
had a good offensive performance and scored 14 points. Philips also had the highest number of
rebounds with seven, six defensive and one offensive.
The Cowgirls were aggressive with their rebounding, grabbing a total of 24 throughout the
game. For most of the game, the Cowgirls were able to stay on top of Kimball and they made
it difficult for Kimball to take the lead. During the first and second quarters, the Cowgirls were
able to hold Kimball to nine points per quarter while Coppell scored 26.
Together as a team, they put 16 and 20 points respectively in the third and fourth quarters and coasted to a
16 point victory.
With their win against Kimball, the Cowgirls bettered their record by adding another win for the
season. This week, the Cowgirls will face a major challenge against the Brock High School lady
Eagles on Tuesday Dec. 11. The lady Eagles have an overall record of 11-3 for the season. It will
take a good defensive effort for Coppell to beat a tough Brock team.
Preparing for district
Less than one month and four season games until district, the Cowgirls are looking to improve their 6-10 record and go undefeated in district play. The entire team must come together and have good team chemistry is they want to win.
Junior Caitie Galvan and senior Sydney Overman are needed to lead the team in points while Adaiwu Nwaiwu and Jaidyn Phillips will be key defensive players. Defense and good ball control will also be crucial if the Cowgirls want to win.

Winning Streak
Coming off a two game winning streak, the Cowgirls have been starting to click and come together as a team. Rebounds are a strong point for the Cowgirls as well as three point shooting.
Tournaments have helped make the team chemistry better. If they continue with the win streak, the Cowgirls will soon have a winning record. Other strengths for the Cowgirls are aggressive defense, driving to the basket and passing to the open man.
“[We need to] work on team chemistry, character and work ethic,” senior Rachel Mulumba said.
After the loss to Brock, the Cowgirls hope to get another win under their belt and winning streak started as they face Richardson on Friday.
