As you step into the ferris wheel, you feel the breeze, you see all the rides on the ground and of course you see Big Tex, who is now no longer standing. The business of the fair below all leaves your mind and the next ten minutes of your life are full of calmness.
Every year, each student attending schools in the Coppell ISD are handed a fair ticket. Fair tickets are given to students to have a fun Monday off at the fair.
Having many beautiful attractions, the 52-foot statue of Big Tex isn’t the only thing that gets your attention. Many fair goers are attracted to another large aspect, the Texas Star ferris wheel. Standing at 212 feet, it is not something to be missed.
“I actually haven’t gotten the chance to ride the Ferris wheel this year, but in past years I remember the view was so pretty and I loved looking at all the people below me,” junior Emily Cox said.
Each cart holds four to six people and carries you high above the fair, making it a great opportunity to see the entire fair and meet new people. Making one full non-stop rotation gives riders the opportunity to take beautiful pictures and take a break from the loud noises on the ground below.
“I love when the ferris wheel stops at the top and you can just see the entire fair with all the lights at night, its so pretty,” New Tech High junior Davis Haddock said.
Being the tallest amusement ride in the Western Hemisphere, the lines are bound to be long. There are chains and poles lined up in front of the ride to show riders where lines begin and end. No matter how long these lines are, everyone wants a chance to ride.
“I remember once when I was little the wait in line was almost an hour and a half, but I was so excited once we actually got in our cart just because it is a beautiful ride,” Cox said.
The ferris wheel may not be the most exciting ride, but it is the most relaxing. It might even be the one you see fair attendees taking the most pictures of. Being a beautiful blue color in the daytime and being illuminated by 16,800 lights in the evening, this ride is not one to be glanced at.
“I go to the fair every year so it really is a special thing for me to ride the Ferris wheel and take pictures of it with the lights,” Haddock said.
If you want a chance to see the wheel for yourself, stop by the fair anytime before Oct. 21. Do not miss your chance to ride the beautiful gem of Texas.
