Football:
At 8-1 the Cowboys clinched a playoff berth with their third district win of the year in a 48 point blowout of Lewisville. Now all that remains for Coppell before the playoffs kick off is their final district game against Flower Mound on Friday night. While the game can’t keep the cowboys out of the playoffs a loss could pit the team against a much tougher first round matchup in Euless Trinity as opposed to playing a team with a worse record such as Keller in the opening round.
More on who the football team will face in the first round of the playoffs will come following the game against Flower Mound this Friday.
Volleyball:
The volleyball team entered the postseason ranked ninth in the area and eleventh in the state and faced Colleyville Heritage in the opening round at Grapevine High School on Tuesday night. The cowgirls won in three games 25-20, 25-21, and 26-24. The cowgirls now face the Allen Eagles Thursday night at seven at Plano West. The cowgirls faced the area’s top ranked Eagles earlier this season in the Allen Tournament and lost 1-2.
The cowgirls are confident that this game will have a different outcome though.
“I feel like we are ready for a tough Allen Eagles team,” co-captian Taylor Meade said.
The rest of the team agrees.
“We’re expecting them to be good and focus on a few key player, but we believe we can win,” senior Kirstin Hazelrigg said.
Cross Country:
Coppell’s cross country teams entered the district race on Oct. 30th with different outlooks. The girls varsity team entered as the second ranked team in the state and hoping to win the district race, while the guys team faced a tough task as four of the six teams in the district ranked in the top ten in the state. Their results also were vastly different as the girls team finished second behind Southlake lead by junior Kim Kirby who finished fist overall. The guys finished sixth in the district race.
“We have been training extremely hared this season and pushing each other to run harder,” senior Rebekah Hederson said. “If we just run our best we definitely have the potential to make it to state.”
The girls team runs in the regional race this Friday in Lubbuck.
Tennis:
After defeating the jaguars to claim the district 6-5A team tennis title the team entered the regional tournament in Abilene as the district’s number one seed. In the first round of the tournament, Coppell dominated El Paso Franklin 10-2. The quarterfinals were a different story though as Coppell faced fourth ranked Abilene. Coppell’s postseason run ended with a 10-2 loss to Abilene ending the team tennis season.
“I am really proud of the way the team pulled together after the loss to Marcus and especially the performance in the district tournament and the way that the team kept up the intensity through regionals,” senior captain Jacob Rao said.
The tennis team now looks forward to the individual season which takes place in the spring.
