In a matter of hours the waiting was finally over. With sore feet and hopefully a raffle prize in possession, students filed out of the Dallas Trade Center and having finally been able to experience their much-anticipated senior prom.
For some, prom was everything they could have ever imagined right down to the decorations, while for others prom, was not exactly what they had in mind.
“I thought the dance was going to be awesome but it just wasn’t, the mood was lame,” senior Stephen Arifin said. “Everything was too spread out and the casino tables didn’t match the mood because they separated the people from the dancing which made it not as fun on the dance floor.”
However, for many students, they could not have asked for a better night to celebrate how far they have come on their high school journey.
“The music was actually good, the cupcakes and food was delicious and the casino games were interesting. It was fun that they had something else for kids to do if they didn’t want to dance,” senior Rachel Willms said.
With so many perspectives and opinions on the success of prom, a survey was conducted to see what aspects of prom were most and least successful. Out of the venue, DJ and theme, DJ ranked the least successful while many students agreed that the venue and theme were an overall success.
But for many students, the dance itself was not all they had in store for their night. Many prom groups had plans afterwards in order to spend the night with their best friends and enjoy their weekend of fun.
“After prom our party bus took us to a lake house and we hung out with our friends and had a great time,” senior Alexis Pentecost said. “It was fun to just bond with friends and stay up all night long.”
Before the celebration could begin, many girls spent countless hours getting dolled up for the occasion. For many girls this meant getting nails painted, makeup done and hair styled.
“I got my hair and makeup done and it was exciting, I loved getting all dressed up. The stylist created my vision perfectly and I was so happy with how it all turned out,” senior Haley Thurman said.
For some, the built up hype of prom did not end up being quite what they had looked forward to for so many years. From TV shows to magazine issues, the prom is made out to be something much different than what it can turn out as.
“I just think it is over-.rated,” Thurman said. “People make it out to be this huge deal and such a big night, but it really is just like four hours and then it’s done.”
With weeks of planning and hundreds of dollars often spent, it is hard to imagine on April 14 that everything could possibly go down without a hitch. But for many groups, it was a relief how well their night turned out.
“It was better than I expected,” senior Alyssa Baker said. “It was so stressful to plan out so I was afraid it would be a stressful night but it really wasn’t.”
With the decorations taken down and the DJ packed up, prom is now just a night full of memories for students at CHS. Whether it was everything it was dreamed up to be or a bit of a let down, it symbolizes how close the senior class is to moving on to their next chapter.
