Schools all around world struggle with getting their students to go to class, and Coppell students are no different. One school in Vitoria de Conquista, Brazil, however, is now taking extreme measures to ensure that their children come to school on time.
According to a Yahoo technology article, over 20,000 grade school students are now required to wear a school uniform with a GPS tracker embedded in it. The tracker is quite similar to pet trackers that are attached to pet collars and can show the owner the whereabouts of their pet.
Now, instead of tracking their dog, parents in Brazil can track their children. Every day parents will receive a text message notifying them when their child gets to school. The technology is so advanced that it even sends a text message to parents when their child is late or doesn’t show up at all.
While I think the idea behind the GPS tracker is in the right place, I find it creepy that, with a press of a button, my parents can find my exact location. However, I do think the tracker is a step in the right direction towards preventing students from skipping class.
