It’s that time of year again. Intramural sports are springing into action. This year students will have the chance to play a sport that isn’t nearly as well known, it’s not even from America. This sport is Rugby.
Rugby is a variation of football that originated in the United Kingdom. Rugby began in the 19th century, and like football, rugby is a tackle sport played with players called backs playing defense, and with players called forwards specializing in offense. There are many resources about how to play the sport, including short instructional videos to walk you through the game.
The Coppell Rugby team is relatively new and is looking for players of all levels to come out and play. You won’t need a helmet or pads, so you don’t need to worry about equipment. The team practices on Mondays and Thursdays after school on the practice fields behind the field house.
Even if you don’t know the strategies and rules of Rugby, you should definitely come try it out. It may turn out to be something you really enjoy. And remember, the people that try the most activities in high school are more likely to find something they love.
