Every year when fall rolls around, the Coppell High School show choir Vivacé! prepares for its annual dessert show. It is a fun-filled fall performance where free
desserts are given out during intermission.
This special occasion started five years ago and is always the first Vivacé! production of the year. Much time and effort goes into preparation for this performance, not only the members, but also their parents.
While Vivacé! works on the melodies at school, their parents are busy in the kitchen preparing the multitude of desserts that will be available for the show. Each student is required to supply three dozen desserts, so there will be plenty to go around.
The show’s theme, “The Nicest Kids in Town,” is taken from the Broadway musical, “Hairspray.” Sticking to the Broadway theme, they will be singing popular tunes from the musicals “Hairspray” and “Footloose.” They will also carry out their own interpretations of classic songs like “Sweet Caroline,” “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” and “Thriller.”
Senior Vivacé! member Anna Nudo is entering her third year of show choir and loves being part of the Vivacé! family. She is striving for this year to be the best yet.
“Personally what I love a lot about Vivacé! is the performance aspect of it,” Nudo said. “The coolest part about it is that by the end of the show you’ve experienced an incredible performance and to be able to grow so much in your friendships with everyone else. By the spring show you’re such a tight nit group that it’s just that much more enjoyable”.
Over the years, Vivacé! shows have become popular among many students and their families. Some even take it to heart to attend every show.
Sophomore Sophie Nauyokas has made a tradition of attending these Vivace! shows with her friends and family the past two years. The dessert show is her personal favorite because of the lighthearted atmosphere and delicious treats.
“My sister started coming to the shows her freshman year and she brought me with her. I loved it so much that I brought my friends and we just started coming to every one,” Nauyokas said. “They never cease to entertain me. Every show that they put on has a different theme and highlights different types of music. It looks like they are having a lot of fun out there, and that makes me have a good time as well”.
Show times tonight and tomorrow at 7:30 p.m.
Tickets for the production will be sold at the door- $5 for students and $10 for adults. The price includes a complementary dessert and water bottle during the intermission.
