The Cowboys gave their fans something to cheer about once again with a 38-17 victory over the Jesuit Rangers, bringing the Cowboys to a perfect 2-0 record.
The defense continued to shine after posting a shutout against South Garland a week prior they held Jesuit scoreless for most of the first half before giving up 10 points late in the second quarter. The defense held the Rangers to 20 rushing yards on 11 attempts. They were not perfect, though, giving up 354 yards passing and surrendering 17 points total.
On the other side of the ball the offense rolled, posting 38 points to follow up its 45-point effort against South Garland. Senior quarterback Hayden Hawk connected on 15 of 29 passes for 300 yards and two touchdowns. Hawk also had an eight-yard run for a touchdown.
“We love to win, but obviously [the game] wasn’t mistake free and we need to strive to have a perfect game because that is what champions do,” head coach Joe McBride said.
The Cowboys have a tough test coming their way next week as they face Highland Park (2-0) one of the areas top Class 4A teams at Buddy Echols Field at 7:30. While the team focuses on the upcoming game against Highland Park a district that has combined for a 9-1 record through the first two weeks of play awaits.
