Yesterday, at Woodforrest Bank Stadium, the Coppell Cowboys Lacrosse boys took on the Jesuit Rangers in the State Championship. Despite it being the first year for the team to be in Division I, the Cowboys took control and defeated the Rangers 10-8.
The playoffs began earlier in the week, and just the day before the Cowboys had overcome St. Mark’s, another Dallas-area team. Though they had two state titles under their belt from the two previous years, the team had only recently made the transition from Division II to Division I, and it was doubtful, at the beginning of the season at least, that they would be able to dominate the tougher division.
With their fans watching the game from the bleachers and from their televisions at home, the Cowboys proved how ready they were to compete at the higher level and defeated a very tough Jesuit team, led by Buck McClure. The MVP of the game was Coppell senior Tyler Landis, who will play Lacrosse for Brown University next year. His teammates Nate Hruby and Brandon Mullins will each be playing at the Air Force Academy and Syracuse, respectively.
