Running down streets, explosions unfold mere feet away, gunning down aliens while being caught up in the incredible scenery— this is what you are going to experience in one of the latest first person shooters “Crysis 2”.
“I really want to get “Crysis 2” because it’s different from the rest of the games that have come out in the past and the graphics look really good— much better than Call of Duty,” junior Austin Watters said.
“Crysis 2”, which was released March 22, recently emerged on my radar as one of the best games of the year, so far. I had my doubts at first because of the original Crysis game’s isolation to the PC, but with the release of this sequel, which can be played on a variety of different consoles, I managed to change my mind about the Crysis franchise.
This game encompasses everything a person can want in a sci-fi, postmodern-warfare shooter. Not only does the game have an exceptional story mode and an extremely entertaining multiplayer. Plus, the sounds and graphics of this game are mind-blowing.
The game is set in the year 2024 in NYC, which is under attack from not only an alien invasion, also a deadly virus and a private security force, Crynet, which has basically waged war on the U.S. Military. Throughout the game, you will play as a marine named Alcatraz who is fitted with the trademark Crysis Nanosuit.
The way you play this game revolves around this Nanosuit. The suit allows the player to change different abilities; choose different paths throughout the game; and destroy anything that stands in their way. This suit makes you think about the different options in paths and abilities in order to make the player actually contemplate what to do and what the impact their actions will have on the rest of the game.
“The game makes you think about everything that you’re going to do,” said sophomore Colton Cunov, “you can’t just run in you have to plan out what your going to do.”
Within the game-play, you will not only be entranced by all the options the game lets you experiment with, but the scenery which displays itself around you. Looking through the lens of the Nanosuit at the light, which reflects off objects and cascades down walls, really immerses you in the game.
The game does not have a lot of room to wander around, but this tightness of the game really keeps the focus on the objective that you are trying to achieve. In addition to the relatively small environment size, the game’s campaign does have some lapses in story, but what it lacks in story it makes up for with unrelenting action.
This game, which I had my doubts about until I finally sat down and played it, exceeded my expectations. Anyone who is interested in sci-fi action games, or just needs a break from boring, old “Call of Duty” shooters, should definitely pick up a copy of “Crysis 2”.
“I’ve been playing “Crysis 2” since it came out and it’s become one of my favorite games,” said junior Jake Busboom, “it’s a change of pace from “Call of Duty”, which has gotten really repetitive.”
