Unlike most high schools, Coppell sponsors a fine intramural program and next up is the second season of ultimate frisbee. The first season was in fall 2010.
The newest 2011 games will be played behind the fieldhouse and start at five p.m., beginning this Thursday, April 14. Last year’s spring league was played at Coppell Middle School West, but this time the high school’s fields have opened up.
Frisbee will be going along with 3 0n 3 basketball, which is on Mondays, and will be the fifth season of intramurals thus far. And just like every other sport this year, students have compiled many teams and are pushing to have the most in the program’s short history.
With the new Ultimate Club being established by this senior class, the caliber of teams is likely better than ever. Many of the club’s players have formed a team called “The Rancheros”, but all of the members are spread out across the league. Still, according to many participants, the favorite is senior squad, Team Tatum, which has won three times already in early years.
Again, the games start Thursday and will continue for four weeks, however, thunderstorms tomorrow could postpone opening night.
