This past weekend, the Cowboy baseball team took home first prize in the Baylor Medical Tournament after knocking off five straight opponents.
In pool play, Coppell held Mansfield Legacy, Heritage and Fort Worth Western Hills to three runs combined, advancing to bracket play. Following a 7-5 victory over Mansfield, the Cowboys edged El Paso Franklin, 5-4, in the championship game while facing an All-American pitcher.
Consistent and solid pitching led the Cowboys to their first tournament victory of the year as well as supplying worlds of confidence throughout the clubhouse. Outfielders Craig Aikin and Tyler Hernandez along with shortstop Adam Toth were dubbed All-Tournament and Sam Swinton gathered in the Tournament MVP honor. Swinton had a clutch walk-off home run against Mansfield to seal win and started the first tournament game by pitching a gem, only giving up one unearned run.
The Cowboys play at Arlington High School for a tournament this coming weekend.
