First off, happy New Year to all the readers out there; any New Years resolutions already falling through the cracks? Here are some tricks and tips to keep you on track for the resolutions of the New Year.
The most popular resolutions for recent years has of course has been to lose weight, quit a bad habit, improve a career or grades and start volunteering more or donating money to charities.
If you don’t have a resolution just yet, it is not too late to start. First, your going to want to set a goal for yourself- something that you think you can achieve. Then, give yourself a time or date in which you would like your goal to be reached. It can be a couple weeks to the full year to maybe even the rest of your life depending on what you want to achieve.
“My New Years resolution is not to get too busy. I always feel like I have to much going on and can’t focus on what’s really important,” Says CHS parent Jean Ainsworth.
Make sure the goal that you want to reach is meaningful so that you can have the determination to actually try and reach it. Something shallow and insignificant wont get anywhere but a good solid goal can be obtained if you put your mind into it.
Once you have your goal and a set time to achieve the goal you need to follow a few tips to keep you on track but for men and women it is not always the same. Men tend to try to progressively meet the goal by working at it but women like to be encouraged by friends and family.
Gina Thomaso, a trainer at the YMCA, gave us some pointers on keeping a New Years resolution of staying fit.
“One way is to be active everyday and find some way to increase your daily activity.” Said Thomaso.
This doesn’t mean you need to go to the gym and run everyday but just increase your daily movement. You can do this by parking farther away from the door so that you can get a nice walk in, walk your dog once a day or maybe even just take the stairs at your office building or school.
“If you do have time to exercise running, jogging and even getting to your local fitness club that’s a great way to get fit too,” said YMCA trainer Gina Thomaso.
If you do make keeping up with your physical fitness your New Years resolution and getting to the gym is the way you plan on completing that, then you need to get to the gym regularly.
Thomaso also says that making physical fitness your resolution can be hard because you start out strong but most people quickly lose the desire. Ways to keep that desire are to get encouragement, set up a calendar and times to go to the gym and even get a trainer to keep you on track and motivated.
