The Coppell Cowboys basketball team will be busy over the holiday break, as they begin district play this Tuesday on the road against Fossil Ridge.
The Cowboys, who recently finished second in the Cedar Hill Tournament, have a 10-4 record in 2010. That is good for second place in District 7-5A behind Justin Northwest, who sit at 13-1 thus far.
Those records are essentially meaningless, however, as the four teams with the best record against their divisional opponents in each district qualify for the state playoffs. The Cowboys, who take on Flower Mound tonight in their final non-district game, will be hungry to get off to a fast start next week with a win against Fossil Ridge.
Following the Fossil Ridge game, the Cowboys will compete in Austin Westlake Tournament after Christmas before resuming district play against Southlake Carroll at home on Jan. 4.
