The sounds of applause and whistling can be heard after every piece performed by show choirs at Coppell High School, Coppell Middle School North, Coppell Middle School West, and Coppell Middle School East.
CHS Choir hosted its annual spring Vivace! show, “Lose Control” in the auditorium on Friday night. The show consisted of multiple high energy, choreographed pieces performed by both the high school and middle school show choirs
The show started with Vivace! taking the stage to perform “You Need to Calm Down” by Taylor Swift and later performing songs such as “Titanium” by David Guetta featuring Sia and “Lose Control” by Teddy Swims.
“Vivace! is such a hardworking group of kids who we spend months and months working with on choreography and singing,” Vivace! choreographer Ashley Kimbrough said. “Show choir is a big sport, and these kids are athletes.”
Alongside the high school show choir was the Coppell Middle Schools West, East and North show choirs of Encore, Vox and Spark respectively.
Encore performed “Walking on Sunshine” by Katrina and The Waves while Vox performed “Bad Blood” by Taylor Swift featuring Kendrick Lamar and “Roar” by Katy Perry. Spark performed the songs “Shake It Off” by Taylor Swift and “Firework” by Katy Perry.
“In the time I’ve been with Vivace! and other show choirs, I’ve seen a really dedicated group of students,” Coppell Choir student director Ethan Overton said. “They have been showing up everyday, knowing their stuff, and taking criticisms in such a positive way.”
Soloists also performed in between group performances. Coppell High school sophomore Vyshnavi Devarakonda sang “In The Stars” by Benson Boone while CHS9 student Henry Webb sang “There’s Nothing Holding Me Back” by Shawn Mendes.
“We worked so hard from bell to bell and during rehearsals to perfect our performances,” Devarakonda said. “For my solo especially, I was sick for most of my practice time but in the end, I think I pulled it off.”
Kimbrough thinks the hard work of the group has led to the formation of strong bonds between the members.
“The amount of love and support they have for each other is amazing,” Kimbrough said. “That’s what Vivace! is. Vivace! is a family.”
