Do good grades really mean something if you do not balance studying with fun? Majority of the students at Coppell High School are probably studying for an upcoming test, trying to get an assignment done by 11:59 p.m., or worrying about what college they want to get into.
But, there are probably not many people out having fun, hanging out with their friends and family, or simply relaxing.
Most people have different hobbies and activities they like to do in their free time. These activities can range from sports, music, art, reading or anything else.
“Some things I like to do in my free time are activities like scrapbooking, watching my favorite shows and running,” sophomore Pragna Vykuntam said.
However, students likely do not get a lot of time in their day to do these activities. They are often occupied with school related activities, jobs and extracurricular activities.
“I am usually busy with other things like homework or other work from classes outside of school,” Vykuntam said. “I try to find time for them in the evenings after school, but I usually don’t have that much free time”.
School is a very important part of someone’s life. However, too much of one thing tends to be unhealthy. Balance is key to a healthy body and mind. Having too much fun could plummet your health while not having fun at all could be exhausting to one’s health.
Doing the things you enjoy every now and then to get away from the rigor of school work can be very beneficial. As significant as working on your chemistry lab is, grabbing a treat at the local ice cream shop with your friends is too. These activities can ultimately improve your performance at school.
Students may not realize this when they have a lot going on around them. The belief that excelling in school is the only way to be happy is an illusion. The immense pressure from a very competitive district can take a toll on a student’s mind, leading them to devote time only to studying and earning good grades.
This mentality can contribute to missing out on many opportunities. These could be simple things like a day with your friends to the mall, a concert of an artist you listen to or a nice day at the park.
Missing out on outings and events like these costs you the opportunity to make memories. Making memories as a teenager gives you a positive and happy moment to reflect upon.
Make plans with your friends and spend time doing your favorite hobby. Take some time to relax and have some fun once in a while.
