A pair of Olimpico goals off corner kicks in the first 20 minutes set the tone for the Coppell girls soccer team in a 6-0 victory against Little Elm on Tuesday night at Buddy Echols Field.
“The two Olimpico goals off the corner to start the game got the momentum rolling,” Coppell coach Craig Able said. “We wanted to start the game early, fast and furious.”
The Cowgirls wasted no time capitalizing on their early momentum, forcing Little Elm to focus on defense. Their quick ball play and aggressive attacking overwhelmed Little Elm’s defense, setting the stage for a dominant second half.
Coppell dominated the first half with three more goals before halftime, building an insurmountable lead. The team maintained possession of the ball and offensive pressure in the second half, adding one more goal while limiting Little Elm’s opportunities to score.
Sophomore Riley Koski-Barger, making her first district start at outside back, contributed two goals and two assists in the offensive performance.
“We knew they were going to sit a bit deeper, so we knew we’d have to be a little more creative to find those goal-scoring opportunities,” Able said.
Despite Coppell getting many opportunities to score throughout both halves, Little Elm made key saves in the second half, slowing Coppell’s offense.
“Their keeper made some nice saves in the second half, but ultimately I’m proud of our results,” Able said.
The Cowgirls play at Lewisville on Friday.
