With 34 minutes left in the first half, Hebron junior midfielder Leah Simpson dribbles and drives to the goal allowing the Hebron girls soccer team to secure the only goal on Tuesday at Buddy Echols field.
Hebron defeated Coppell, 1-0, handing the Cowgirls their first District 5-6A loss. Kickoff was moved up to 4:30 p.m. due to cold temperatures.
“Their defense played great when we played them last time and this time,” Coppell Coach Craig Able said. “We just have to make sure we stay connected.”
Coppell senior forward Reagan Roberson made an effort and took a shot on the goal at the start of the second half; her attempt not being able to gain the Coppell girls soccer team a goal against Hebron as it was offside.
“Soccer is a game of inches,” Coppell coach Craig Able said. “We had the goal called back that was offsides, if those two inches went our way all of a sudden it could’ve been a two goal game for us.”
Hebron needed the win to remain in playoff contention.
“We had a lot of opportunities,” Coppell sophomore forward Riley Kosk-Barger said. “I think we could have worked on pressing harder and finishing more chances we had.”
Even with chances in the second half to score against Hebron via free kicks, Coppell was not able to secure a goal to tie the game.
“I feel like we could’ve helped one another a bit more at the end,” Coppell sophomore midfielder Emeline Holder said. “We’re definitely going to focus on being more positive.”
Coppell plays at Denton Guyer at 7 p.m. Friday.
