Council approves development of two incoming restaurants

Coppell City Council members debate the motion of approving the development of two new restaurants on Tuesday night at the council meeting in Town Center.

On Tuesday evening, Coppell City Council unanimously approved the development of two incoming restaurants. Jason’s Deli is set to occupy a space in building complex 240 on North Denton Tap Road, and Singas Pizza is preparing to occupy a space in the Valley Ranch Plaza off of South MacArthur Boulevard.

Both locations are in need of several modifications in order to operate a restaurant, as laid out by the Coppell Planning and Zoning Commission. However, with the promise of adherence to conditions laid out, their zoning change requests to allow for their future operations were approved.

“I am excited to see big brands like Jason’s Deli choosing Coppell,” Mayor Pro Tem Kevin Nevels said. “We recently had Trader Joe’s come to town as well, and it really shows the confidence that these companies have in our city.”

The Council also unanimously approved replacing the shade structures covering the bleachers at the MacArthur Park Baseball Complex and installing a Fire Station Alerting System at Coppell Fire Station No. 5.

The meeting concluded with Mayor Wes Mays discussing the winter weather conditions that Coppell experienced last Thursday and Friday.

”I wanted to compliment the response of the city’s staff to the weather on Thursday and Friday.” Mays said. “It was not nearly as severe as it could have been, but our staff was completely prepared and ready to go.”

Maddy Park is a senior and a second-year staff photographer on The Sidekick Maddy ended up in The Sidekick in an unexpected way. After landing a leg injury in soccer, she thought, why not join the school’s newspaper? From owning Sidekick subscriptions before, she enjoyed reading the newspaper and decided that she wanted to be a part of the process. When she’s not taking photos, she can be seen making art as she has been a part of Coppell High School’s art program for four years. Outside of school, she plays for her club soccer team, DKSC, and enjoys hanging out with her German Shepard and black cat. She loves boba tea and any non-spicy Korean food. Sofia Exposito is a junior and staff designer for The Sidekick. She moved to Coppell, Texas in 2018 from Maracay, Venezuela. She adores drawing and spends most of her time sketching and creating designs and cartoons whenever she can. Her love for drawing has only grown over the years as Sofia aspires to work for an animation company, as a character designer or a concept artist. Some of her favorite animated movies are Big Hero 6, Tangled and Monster University, as they bring inspiration and creativity every time she rewatches them. It may seem uncommon, but she needs to be listening to some type of sound when she draws, it is a golden rule that can never be broken.
