AT&T Stadium. The Goodyear Cotton Bowl. Ohio State vs.Texas.
This is the headline of Friday’s headline College Football Semifinal between the Buckeyes (12-2) and the Longhorns (13-2).
In preparation, teams are stressing practicing and marching bands are looking for avenues to practice their rehearsal.
With Ohio State defeating Oregon in the Rose bowl in Pasadena, Calif., and Texas defeating Arizona State in the Peach Bowl in Atlanta, the stage has been set for Friday Night at 6:30 p.m..
“As soon as that game against Arizona State ended, I reached out to the head band director at UT, Dr. Croomes,” Coppell ISD fine arts director Gerry Miller said. “Being the head coordinator of the Texas band, I asked if he needed a venue, and not even two minutes later, he texted back saying that he needed somewhere.”
On Thursday, the Longhorn Band is holding an open practice at the Coppell High School Field House from 3 to 6:30 p.m..
With the weather brewing and the temperature dropping, the timing of the event is still fluid.
CISD campuses are closed on Thursday due to inclement weather. However, the Longhorn Band rehearsal remains on schedule and open to the public.
With this being an open practice, the outreach to the community is something that both Miller and Coppell Band director Kim Shuttlesworth talked about.
“It’s a good time for them to check out what it is like to be in a collegiate band,” Shuttlesworth said. “It’s very different from a high school band, so they could experience that since there’s no viewing area, just the field house itself.”
