Christmas is a jolly time for many people. Spending it with family and friends at an event can make it even more fun.
The Christmas spirit that has lived on from years, decades and even centuries ago still lives on at Vintage Christmas.
Vintage Christmas, held on Dec. 7, is an annual event in Old Town Coppell with fun, festive activities the whole family can enjoy. It includes the weekly farmers market.
Events include holiday themed crafts at the Coppell Arts Center, face painting at the Tangerine Salon, hot chocolate cup decorating at George Coffee + Provisions and many more.
Coppell High School’s Eco Club held a booth for kids to make their own reindeer ornaments.
“It is a cute thing for the kids and we are repurposing materials for it,” junior Adhira Pulasseri, a member of CHS Eco Club, said. “We also run a collection drive, so we take old electronics, makeup, batteries, markers and plastic film and we have a recycling challenge going on and we like to get people to give us their old stuff.”
This event included holiday spirit while saving the environment at the same time.
Wackym’s kitchen owner Paul Wackym sold cookies with unique flavors at his booth.
“I am wearing a very elaborate hat with birds and holly while selling a lot of cookies,” Wackym said. “I feel as if I have a huge responsibility to help spread cookie love.”
Coppell’s Farmers Market had a booth dedicated to Christmas card crafts for kids.
“We have so many supplies: buttons, sequins, rhinestones, paper, stamps, ribbons, scissors and glue so that everybody can personalize their cards,” resident Marilyn Horton said. “I love seeing the kids be creative with their Christmas cards and pride after they finish it.”
These events may all be different in their own way but they share one thing in common: Christmas spirit.
“My favorite part of Vintage Christmas is interacting with the kids at our booth,” Pulasseri said. “I love Christmas; it is really cold but a happy time altogether.”
Residents appreciate the unity apparent in the event.
“I like the fact that Old Town Coppell gets together to put this on – it draws people to the town,” Horton said. “I relish the family relationships of them working together.”
