The holiday season is defined by family and comfort, but not everyone is allowed those luxuries.
Coppell High School is partnering with the Coppell Lions Club for the CHS Student Council/ Lions Club Toy Drive to donate toys for children in need. Student Council, The Sidekick newspaper and the Texas Association of Future Educators (TAFE) are participants.
Members of The Sidekick are responsible for donating toys for toddlers ages 3 to 4 years old, and TAFE is collecting toys for toddler boys aged 3 to 4 years old.
Student Council members and anybody at CHS can also donate $5 to Student Council sponsor Benjamin Stroud’s room C221 by Wednesday. The goal is to raise $1,000 to donate 20 $50 gift cards from Target, Walmart and Academy Sports to CHS students.
“It’s always important to give back to those in need,” Stroud said. “You would be surprised how many students in our hallways are financially insecure.”
The goal is to raise $500 to $600 worth of toys.
For senior Student Council president Rudhmila Hoque, participating in the toy drive is an opportunity to give back to the community.
“I feel amazing because it is a tradition for Student Council, and I love how I am able to help all the students who are in need during this holiday season,” Hoque said.
Junior Student Council historian Jessica Paulino thinks the toy drive helps Student Council members gain important life skills.
“The toy drive is important in Student Council because that is where you learn leadership and how to give back to your community,” Paulino said.
