On Nov. 12, the Coppell City Council approved a new office building next to Rolling Oaks Cemetery and amended existing plans for a commercial district in east Coppell off of Lyndon B Johnson Freeway.

The amended district will provide citizens with a multitude of urban services, spanning more than 16 acres, including designations for multiple retail spots, patio spaces and a five-story Tempo by Hilton hotel containing 140 rooms.

One of the planners for the commercial district, Jaaan Ramji, outlined what the businesses will bring to the city.

“We’re helping activate the community with the retail, the restaurants, the hotel in the back,” Ramji said.”Bringing travelers who are looking to go there recreationally, as well as creating jobs for the city.”

For Coppell residents and communities who live nearby, the district will include multiple restaurants, including drive-thrus.

“Restaurants bring many people to sit down, and [helps] build a community,” Ramji said.
