CHS9 student Hema Punuri is a 2024-25 CHS9 Student Council executive board member. Punuri enjoys making new friends with peers throughout CHS9, developing a sense of unity and strengthening community relationships.
Why did you want to join the executive board?
I wanted to get involved in the student council because I wanted to learn more about CHS9 and it sounds like a really fun way to help people.
What were your campaign strategies?
We weren’t really given much of an option to advertise online so it was really based on my poster. I wanted to make something very appealing so people would look at the poster and be like, “Wow I know her from her poster.” I also went around and made a lot of friends, asking for their vote.
How are you going to improve CHS9?
There’s a lot of integrity problems and people just aren’t as nice. I hope I can make a positive impact for people by improving mental health and make sure people can be more comfortable here.
What is your motivation for being a leader in student council?
My motivation is helping people because it’s always nice to see that smile on their face and just being kind. I always help out my friends whenever they need it and make sure to give information to people, looking out for them.
What legacy do you want to leave at CHS9?
I hope people remember me as someone who is dependable, accountable and someone you could really count on to encourage students to believe in the spirit of being at school.
What is your favorite part of being in student council?
I got to meet a few new members so I was able to make some friends. It’s really nice to be able to share ideas on how to improve the community here. Everyone is really kind and welcoming so it’s really nice to be with people who are outgoing and social.
What does it mean to you that people voted for you?
I really appreciate it because I was able to reach out to a lot of people and I’m happy that people remembered my name. It’s really nice that people voted for me and I’m appreciative of that.
