CHS9 student Jacob Patterson is a member of the 2024-25 CHS9 Student Council executive board. Patterson hopes to help his fellow students and fix anything that the student body might need.
Why did you want to join the executive board?
I’ve always thought of myself as a natural born leader, so that played part of it. I wanted to make change around my school and wanted to represent people. If people wanted help, I wanted to be that person to help them. I wanted people to have somebody there who would listen to them.
What were your campaign strategies?
The posters were obviously one that I used, but the other one I used was just talking to people, getting to know people. I had a lot of friends, but I also met a lot of new people campaigning. My main strategy was to get to know and talk to people. Just around school, posters said, “Vote Jacob Patterson for StuCo,” and I had a few pictures of me on there.
What do you want to add to student council this year?
My hope is to add a better environment and keep adding what people want. So far, it’s going pretty good this year, and there’s been no major issues that we’ve had to solve or anything like that. I’m hoping we can keep it that way.
How did you react when you found out that you had been elected?
I was at home talking with a few of my friends and then I received an email. My mom was really excited for me and I was excited that I got elected. I was happy and really glad that people trusted me enough to vote for me and that I got to represent our class this year as a StuCo officer.
What legacy would you like to leave on both CHS9 and student council?
I’m not sure yet, but I want teachers to be able to say that this is the best class that came through CHS9. I hope we can fix things, and I want people to be able to trust us.
What are you most excited for within student council for the 2024-25 school year?
What I’m most excited for is being able to make connections with people this year, getting to know people and getting to help people have fun, trying to implement things that people want.
What do you think your future in student council will look like at CHS?
I hope I can be that person that people come to. If they need help with something. I’m going to help, and fix any problem that needs it. I’ve always felt inclined to help people to the best of my ability and I just want to use that to my advantage and help people who need it.
