On Friday, spirits of Coppell High School students in senior overalls and pink attire were diminished as the scheduled pep rally was rescheduled on Thursday night.
“We moved the pep rally because B day sixth period students were going to miss a lot of class time,” Principal Laura Springer said.
On Wednesday, sophomores and juniors took the PSAT, meaning students did not attend fifth and sixth periods. Seniors had late arrival and a class meeting during the PSAT. The next scheduled pep rally will be held on Nov. 7 during sixth period. On Nov. 13, seniors will miss class time to take their class panoramic picture.
“In total, that would have been four B days of missed classroom instruction, causing an inequitable student learning between A and B days,” English teacher Benjamin Stroud said. “Those semester classes would have been units behind compared to other classes.”
Additionally, if Friday’s pep rally was scheduled during sixth period, students would have only attended sixth period once last week.
“As much as I love pep rallies, I would have missed my sixth period for two days that week,” English teacher Richard Orlopp said. “It would have set them back and required them to do a lot of work at home, which they would not have been happy about.”
Students were enthusiastic for the pep rally and disappointed by the setback.
“I was excited to see my friends,” junior Aditi Rathod said. “Next time they should plan better to avoid these issues.”
