The Coppell volleyball team defeated Lewisville, 25-13, 22-25, 25-20, 25-17 on Friday at CHS Arena, advancing its record and holding strong in the district standings.
After taking an early 16-8 lead in the first set, the Cowgirls finished strong with a 25-13 win, setting the tone for the match. The Farmers responded fiercely in the second set, going back and forth with the Cowgirls throughout the course of the set, ultimately edging them out at 22-25.
However, the Cowgirls quickly recuperated in the third set, obtaining a 25-20 win, and carrying that momentum into the fourth set with the help of freshman Bailey Johnson, who delivered a pivotal spike at the end of the fourth set, securing Coppell’s win.
According to Coppell coach Robyn Ross, the team’s strategy for serving and blocking is what helped them pull through the match.
“We put our best blockers on their best hitter, and then we tried to strategically serve to different players so that it would make it more difficult,” Ross said.
Overall, the match was competitive, and served as a determiner of the Cowgirls and the Farmer’s respective prowess over each other.
“It was a fight to the end,” Ross said.
