On Tuesday night, the Coppell City Council declared the month of October as Fire Prevention Month and also declared National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
The council emphasized the importance of replacing smoke alarms in homes and commended city fire stations for educating the community and children on fire safety practices.
In honor of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, local nonprofit organization Pink Soles in Coppell discussed the severity of the condition and to promote awareness.
“We would like to encourage everybody to be aware of their body,” Pink Soles in Coppell president Sandra Sauceda said. “You have to pay attention to what is going on with yourself and not hesitate to get things checked out if you feel that there is something not right.”
The council approved purchasing four Harley-Davidson police motorcycles to replace existing police department vehicles with added safety features. Council member Biju Mathew, however, is not in favor of supporting this item again in the future.
“What I would request is to at least have an option to see other brand name motorcycles, so we can compare and contrast to see the values we are getting the motorcycles for,” Mathew said.
