On Tuesday, Coppell City Council declared September as Senior Citizens Month in Coppell and proclaimed Oct. 1 to be National Night Out for Coppell. It also discussed plans to renovate the service center as well as a water redundancy project.
The council approved a water redundancy project for emergencies that Coppell will share with Grapevine and Louisville. This will be the line Coppell will use if the pump station goes down. The plant could also be used in situations during the summer where water rationing is necessary.
The council also approved updates and renovations to Coppell’s service center that houses first responders who tend to catastrophic events in the city. The construction of this new facility will start in late October or early November.
As September was declared Senior Citizen Month, Mayor Pro Tem Kevin Nevels praised the Coppell Senior and Community Center for its hard work it does for Coppell’s senior citizens.
“I just wanted to say thank you so much for all that the senior center does. Providing community for our senior group in town is absolutely amazing,” Nevels said. “You guys run an awesome facility and I love getting to come over every month and give the council update about what is going on.”
This year, the National Association of Talent Watch is sponsoring the 41st annual National Night Out. This event promotes police partnerships, neighborhood awareness and community drug awareness efforts. This is Coppell’s 33rd year to participate in the National Night Out.
“We really hope that the community feels our support. National Night Out is just a reminder of what a great community we are. You get to meet your police officers and we get to meet you.” Coppell Police Chief Danny Barton said.
