Security at Coppell High School has always been a priority, especially when students return to the school building from lunch outside. Typically, students are required to show their ID badges at the front entrance to ensure that only authorized students enter the building.
But many students do not wear their IDs when reentering CHS.
To encourage students to follow this security protocol, front door receptionist Lauren Benavidez has incorporated a new system with a fun twist to inspire students to wear their IDs on their way back into the building. She has started a monthly raffle for each student who has their ID ready as they enter the building.
“Being the front door receptionist, safety is number one, and with a ton of kids coming in and out daily, I was getting tired of saying ‘show your ID,” Benavidez said. “So the incentive is if you have your ID on when you walk through the door, then you can be entered in the raffle.”
Junior Haley Bantz thinks the raffle will make students more likely to follow the rules.
“It is definitely encouraging students to keep their IDs on when they eat outside. I think it is good because it promotes safety,” Bantz said.
Some of the prizes Benavidez is giving out for the raffle include various gift cards, a tortilla blanket and a Bluetooth speaker.
“Being a former teacher, I always had fun little incentives in my classroom and I thought that kids love raffles and it would be a fun incentive for them to be a little more responsible,” Benavidez said. “Safety is number one and we do not want someone sneaking through.”
