Noor’s feathery voice echoes through D115 as I enter the room.
“Lizzie, dear, how are you today?”
It’s a simple question, one that if anyone else asked I would respond with the typical, “I’m doing well.”
But when it comes to Coppell High School senior and The Sidekick staff writer Noor Fatima, I open up and she comforts me with a gentle, lavender-scented hug.
Noor and I often joke that I’m like a little sister to her, even though I’m only a year younger in age. She’s been there for me on my best and worst days in The Sidekick.
My first memory of Noor is during The Sidekick boot camp. I saw her going around the room complimenting everyone on their work, even if she wasn’t certain of their names. I thought she seemed so sweet and I remember looking up her name on Coppell Student Media that afternoon. As I scrolled through Noor’s profile, I was in awe of her artistic ability.
As I’ve come to learn, Noor is very private about her art. She stays humble, but I am constantly amazed at her creativity. Every piece she makes is so intricate and meaningful. She’s even had her work featured at the Coppell Arts Center.
Above all though, I’ve always admired the fact that Noor isn’t afraid to speak her mind. Every Sidekick class period we share together, she makes the room her own. Noor chimes into every discussion with her quips about just about everything, especially the differences between living in Canada versus Texas (in her words, “people should be more afraid of goose bites than goosebumps.”) Noor truly is a character and I’ve never met anyone with the same type of charm she has.
Noor, I know you’re going to do incredible things. I see how much effort you put into everything you do creatively, and I see you branching out into new content forms this year. But beyond The Sidekick, you’re the most sincere person I know. I have always admired how much you care about the people around you. I hope I can be the warm person you always were for me to others someday.
