On Tuesday, Coppell ISD Board of Trustees discussed Coppell’s budget for the 2024-25 school year as well as their new infrastructure plans in building the Coppell High School Fine Arts Center and renovating the Tennis Center.
The CHS Fine Arts Center will be built to accommodate programs such as cheerleading, color guard, band, dance and choir. The building will open in August 2025.
The tennis center will also be renovated to add 7,480 square feet, including instructional areas, restrooms, locker rooms, showers, concession stands and more. Construction begins in May and will be completed in the fall of 2025. Tennis teams will use portable locker rooms for athletic use until the construction of the new tennis center is completed.
Plans have also been approved for the renovation of Valley Ranch Elementary School. Renovations include two enclosed courtyards and improvements in collaboration spaces for students. It will also incorporate storm shelters to provide safety to students and staff.
The board announced the replacement of Victory Place @ Coppell Principal Cindi Osborne, who is retiring at the end of the school year. CISD coordinator of student and staff services Marcy Walters was approved as Osborne’s replacement as Victory Place principal.
“I am so honored to be selected as the next principal,” Walter said. “I knew from the first time that I visited Victory Place that I wanted to be part of this exceptional campus and to have the opportunity like this is rare.”
Coppell Choir was recognized for its awards and achievements this school year. All of the middle school choirs recently competed at the UIL district contest that was held in Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD.
“The choirs have been doing outstanding,” Superintendent Dr. Brad Hunt said. “Bravo to our CISD middle school choirs and their outstanding directors Lauren Danby from Coppell Middle School East, Sara Longoria from Coppell Middle School North, and Alison Hartzell from Coppell Middle School West. These ladies did an exceptional job of helping our choirs earn that outstanding rating.”
Last spring, Coppell Senior Center hosted the Seniors vs. Seniors Cornhole tournament which won the Lone Star Recreation Programming Achievement Award. This special award recognizes new outstanding and innovative programs implemented across the state of Texas.
“I am so very proud of our Coppell High School and New Tech seniors that participated in this event,” Hunt said.
CISD seeks community feedback on its budget. It implemented a system where Coppell residents can provide input and opinions on the school district’s budget. Coppell is also increasing its marketing for enrollment as it plays a role in state funding.
Technology improvements are coming to the Vonita White Administration Building, refining software and communication.
“It’s going to be a really nice look for the boardroom in our meeting space,” director of technology Dwight Goodwin said. “We want the technology to be an improvement to our building along with easy use for everyone.”
