The Technology Student Association (TSA) State Conference is April 4-6 in Fort Worth. Previously, the regional competition was held at Coppell High School on Jan. 26-27.
There were a total of 40 events in which teams competed in, out of which Coppell qualified for 30. From Coppell alone, there are 120 members who qualified to state. According to TSA advisor Nicholas Brown, this large number is because of the drive of students.
“I really feel like our students are driven,” Brown said. “I feel like here at the high school we are in a unique situation where we have a lot of people pouring into the lives of students where it is able to champion along the student to be able to be successful, so I really feel like that made a difference.”
Each team was assigned a different event. The team who won first place consisted of juniors Sai Priya Kasiraman, Amanda Zhu and Sahiti Peechara, whose event was Children’s Stories. Their task was to design and create a tangible children’s book.
“Seeing us in first place was very joy inducing,” Kasiraman said. “For a very long time, I have just loved to make things and I think TSA gives me an opportunity to take my love for just creation and put that into a creative standpoint.”
More than qualifying for state, it was the journey to the end goal that had the most value.
“This was my first year competing in TSA and it was definitely a challenge, but I feel like I’ve grown as a person throughout it,” Zhu said. “The best thing about it was working with my group and just having fun along the way.”
