On Monday, the Coppell ISD Board of Trustees announced former history teacher and tennis coach Dwight Goodwin as the new executive director of technology.
“Mr. Goodwin just rose to the top with his experiences and characteristics,” assistant superintendent for administrative services Dr. Kristen Eichel said. “The fact that he sees technology as a means to solve problems to create learning both for our students and our educators again brings him to the top.”
Goodwin replaces Stephen McGilvray, who was named McKinney ISD chief information officer in October.
Director of Career and Technical Education Josh Howard announced changes to the CTE program.
Coppell ISD is introducing a new Robotics and Automation Technology CTE program of study at Coppell High School in the 2024-25 school year. The CTE program is further working on developing more industry based CTE certifications.
“Our high school graduates’ skills will be developed through our program study and also how associate degree students should act as technicians,” Howard said. “It’s a perfect illustration of those multiple post-secondary paths that this new program study is gonna offer our students.”
Changes also include switching the name of the iExplore course to College and Career Exploration, new certifications such as Social Media Marketing, Broadcasting and Journalism, Digital Video Productions, and Python Level 1. A new computer science course, Fundamentals of Computer Science, is being offered as a high school credit at all district middle schools as well.
The Board of Trustees also commended 11 Great Employees Who Matter (GEM) awards to 11 recipients across CISD, including Coppell Middle School East athletics coach Austin Yeager, who recently administered CPR on a collapsed Plano West student during a cross country meet.
“There are so many outstanding educators and employees in Coppell ISD, and it is an honor to recognize them for everything they do to make our district better,” Dr. Superintendent Brad Hunt said.
