Thrifting does not suit many. It offers an overwhelming variety of clothes, shoes, accessories, jewelry and numerous other items. However, with the right guidance, decoding the thrifting world may be easier than you would think. However, its original concept as an accessible and affordable place for those who rely on it out of necessity has become distorted over the years. 

In this episode, The Sidekick staff writer Marli Field and designer Safiya Azam will uncover their thrifting tips to help others navigate through a sea of choices, the rise of thrifting over the years and its effect on local thrift stores.

Marli Field, Staff Photographer
Marli Field is a second-year photographer on the 2024-2025 staff. Marli has a passion for uncovering the artistic past of the world around us, and a bringing a voice to people in our community through journalism. She is a lover of pop culture, caramel macchiatos, and manatees. Outside of school, Marli belongs to the student advisory boards for the Nasher Sculpture Center and the Dallas Holocaust and Human Rights Museum. She is also a member of the CHS Hope Squad. When not in the Sidekick classroom, Marli can often be found watching movies, researching random topics instead of studying, and eating cookies.
Wendy Le
Wendy Le, Executive Social Media Editor
Wendy Le is in her third year in The Sidekick as a senior and the executive social media editor. Throughout her time in this program, she’s found joy in doing things and going to places she never thought she would’ve: standing on the sidelines, in the back of the Black Box Theatre, political rallies, learning how to use Adobe, taking photos, making social media graphics and writing features.  Le does have hobbies outside of D115. When she’s not scouring to get things edited or feeding The Sidekick social media accounts, she likes to brain rot on TikTok, craft new Pinterest boards, go thrifting and take photos on her digital camera.
