Coming off a victory over Hebron, the Coppell volleyball team plans to put its defensive work into action against one of District 6-6A’s top teams.
The Cowgirls play the Jaguars tomorrow at 6:30 p.m. at CHS Arena.
“I’m looking forward to seeing how we will play against a good team such as Flower Mound,” Coppell senior outside hitter Daki Kahungu said. “Also, just playing and not getting frustrated, because they will do great things we can’t linger on.”
The Cowgirls practice strengthening their defense to combat aggressive players.
“We have been working on blocking big hitters, because it’s sometimes hard to read where they’re hitting the ball,” Kahungu said. “Getting a block touch will help slow the ball down for our defense to make a great touch on the ball. We have also been working on hitting lines, because if the blocker on the other side is not disciplined on their block, it is easy to take it out of their hands or hit it in line, so they’re out of the system if they do get the ball up.”
Tomorrow’s match is also Coppell Middle School night. Students from each middle school are invited to watch the match.
“We’ve come a long way from all the games we’ve played so far,” Kahungu said. “We’ve improved a lot and we still are improving, but our talking on and off the court will definitely improve, as well as how we bounce back from being down points-wise.”
