The Coppell girls soccer team lost its second consecutive District 6-6A match with a 3-1 loss to Heborn on Tuesday at Buddy Echols Field. The loss drops the Cowgirls to fourth in district.

Coppell got off to a strong start by scoring the first goal of the match within the first 20 minutes into the first half by Coppell junior forward Sadie Ozymy. As she made her mark on the match, her quick reflexes and precise aim sent the ball soaring past the Hebron goalkeeper, scoring the first goal for Coppell.

The unfavorable weather conditions caused the players to struggle to keep their footing as they sought to conquer the slick surface. With 26 minutes left in the first half, the sound of a lightning alert pierced the air, signaling a pause in the game. The players of both teams retreated to the fieldhouse and spectators waited in the concourse.

“Scoring the goal early was awesome but unfortunately the delay in the rain took that momentum away,” Coach Craig Able said.

As the match resumed following a 30-minute delay, Hebron was on full display with its exceptional skill set during the match against Coppell, ultimately securing them a decisive victory. Hebron senior Aryana Jimison scored 2 goals for their team, with her accurate shot and unwavering focus, she proved herself to be a force to be reckoned with, leaving Coppell in awe of her mastery of the game. Her receiving precise passes from her teammates put the pressure on Coppell from the first whistle. Their  ranking as the top team in the district proved Hebron to be a formidable opponent, showcasing its mastery of the match and elevating their status as a dominant force in the competition.

“They’re the kind of opponent that unfortunately any mistake you make they will capitalize on,” Able said.

Coppell plays at Flower Mound tonight at 7:30 p.m.
