LAKE DALLAS – The student section waved the Coppell flag, inching closer onto the court as the Cowgirls senior setter Taylor Young and senior right side hitter Madison Travis block, sending the ball straight into the floor.

Coppell lost to Denton Guyer at Lake Dallas High School on Tuesday in the Class 6A Region I bi-district playoffs, 25-20, 25-18, 25-18. The defeat ends the Cowgirls season after a second place finish in District 6-6A. Coppell finishes 34-11.

“We beat them in preseason, fumbled the bag, and lost,” Young said. “Our performance was lacking but there was a drive to win.”

Sending a kill from the back row, outsider hitter Skye Lamendola started the match in a positive way for the Cowgirls. With scoring back and forth, the close match was fueled by Coppell’s on-point blocking. This momentum kept the score close before Guyer won the first set, 25-20.

Starting the second set with kills by senior middle hitter Allie Stricker and junior setter Mira Klem, the score remained close until Guyer took a three-point lead. Shortly after, Coppell took a timeout with the score at 21-18, and was not able to come back, ending the second set with a loss, 25-18.

In the third set, Coppell called two timeouts but could not pull ahead. The score stayed close or tied until the final points of the match, leaving the win with Denton Guyer, 25-18.

“We all wanted it, but we just did not execute, tough ending but great season. We’ve got to look at the good things,” Stricker said.
