Until now, the Anime Club has just been about getting together to talk about anime and planning that next party or drawing contest. But this year has been different. Not only has the club drawn in many new members, it has struck a deal with Funimation (a company that releases anime into the U.S.) in order to get the shows they love for free.
In the Anime Club of former years, members only talked about anime or fought about which of their favorite characters was the best. But when the club had to disband because of the lack of members, a new club was formed called the Anime Appreciation Club. The new club did away with the sitting around and started to find anime to watch over the internet, and every week they do a segment pitting characters from Japanese anime against characters from North American cartoons and video games.
Not only that, but the club’s leader Drake McWhirter struck a deal with Funimation Entertainment so that now the Anime Club gets free DVD volumes of different anime shows to keep in exchange for filling out a survey reviewing the show. And so, by word of mouth, the club has grown and has had more members than it has ever had before. If you would like to join too, they meet every Wednesday after school in D207.
