With a 3-1 District 6-6A record, the Coppell football team is looking to remain in contention for the district championship with a victory against Hebron tomorrow night at Buddy Echols Field.

Kickoff is at 7 p.m.

The Cowboys are also celebrating “Hero Night” to honor Coppell’s veterans as well as donate to a good cause. Attendees have the opportunity to donate a coat to someone in need as a part of football and the Young Men Service League’s joint initiative.

“The mindset going into [tomorrow’s] game is just to win,” Coppell senior quarterback Jack Fishpaw said. “Everyone has been preparing all week, and we’ve been making little adjustments, repping new plays based on their defense and controlling what we can control.”

According to Fishpaw, the Cowboys are getting better at keeping its composure and shaking off any nerves with each new game.

“I know we can win, but it boils down to if we execute and play well,” Fishpaw said. “The guys are working harder each and every week because we know we’re a good team and that our goal is to win ‘em all, so our mindsets have definitely shifted to working harder.”

While the Cowboys are coming off a  49-14 victory at Plano East last week, Fishpaw personally recognizes that there is work to be done.

“We’ve got to keep winning if we want to build momentum going into playoffs, and everyone is just excited to play another game,” Fishpaw said. “There are a few things I’m hoping to improve though. I’ve done pretty well these past few weeks, but I’m working towards slight improvements like my accuracy.”

Before the game, Coppell ISD is inviting families, students and teachers to its annual community tailgate located inside the field house at 5 p.m. The tailgate tradition seeks to extend yet another opportunity to unite the Coppell family with Dickey’s barbecue and the football game.

Additionally, Friday’s student section will be covered in camo in support of the Cowboys, with a pregame celebration at 6:30 p.m.
