Coppell tennis bounces back with win against Jesuit and Ursuline

Coppell took on the Dallas Jesuit boys and Dallas Ursuline girls tennis teams on Friday at the CHS Tennis Center. Coppell came away with a 20-8 victory and hosts Plano on Tuesday at 4 p.m.

On Friday, the Coppell tennis team beat the Dallas Jesuit and Ursuline teams, 20-8.

“It was a great way to recover from a tough Tuesday,” Coppell tennis coach Anthony Smith said. “This is a great [way] to rebound and to gain momentum.”

The girls doubles teams swept their matches with Ursuline. The boys doubles teams went 4-1 in its matches against Jesuit.

Coppell junior Allyson Keng and Coppell sophomore Laksita Yuvaraja had a close first match, 5-3, but were able to pull through.

“After we won those games, it boosted our confidence,” Coppell sophomore Laksita Yuvaraja said. “We just kept pumping each other up.”

The team went on to win their next match, 4-0.
“[We] mentally stayed strong,” Coppell junior Allyson Keng said. “[We] had to keep on telling [ourselves] ‘you can do it.’”

Coppell senior Pranav Harwadekar won, 6-0, 6-2 in doubles and 8-4 in singles.

“I was able to capitalize on that quick serve and make a deep return,” Harwadekar said. “I was able to have those deadline shots that helped me finish the game.”

Coppell senior Meghana Ambati and Coppell senior Isabelle Beach swept, 4-0, 4-0. The team was able to try out new techniques.

“We did hand gestures for intimidation and to try it out because it’s a strategy we don’t normally use,” Coppell senior Isabelle Beach said.

The team plays its final District 6-6A match on Tuesday for Senior Night.

“We honor their commitment for four years with CHS tennis,” Smith said.

The Coppell tennis team plays Plano on Tuesday at 4 p.m. at CHS Tennis Center.
