Cowboys hoping for hot at-bats against Plano East
April 19, 2022
In recent weeks, the Coppell baseball team has had inconsistent performances with its at-bats. One game, the Cowboys are lightning hot while others, the Cowboys are struggling for hits deep in.
The Cowboys (16-6-1, 9-1 in District 6-6A) host Plano East tonight at Coppell ISD Baseball/Softball Complex with first pitch at 7:30 p.m..
“Hitting some of the hardest things to do with sports,” Coppell coach Ryan Howard said. “Inconsistency is part of baseball, you go through streaks. The most important thing is staying aggressive and keeping a good attitude, not letting the game beat you up”.
Coppell junior pitcher TJ Pompey, the ace, expects to get the start for the Cowboys.
“I feel good about Tuesday,” Pompey said. “We’re going to keep practicing our hitting and we’re going to come in Monday to have a good practice session.”
With four games remaining in district play, the Cowboys and Marauders are tied atop district standings at 9-1 each. Coppell and Marcus split their series earlier in district play. Each game will be crucial, not only in the district championship race, but for playoff seeding as well.
‘These guys will be ready to go,” Howard said. “They know the importance of these last four district games and our seeding for playoffs, so they know what we have ahead of us. We’re an experienced, mature team so they’ll be ready to go into play.”
