Momentum pushes Cowgirls past Farmers

The echo of Coppell senior center fielder Adrianna Erichson’s blast  hitting the left side of the outfield wall  could be heard amidst the cheers of the dugout. This hit at the bottom of the first inning allowed Erichson to reach on a leadoff triple, building momentum for the Cowgirls in what would be a close game against Lewisville. 

“It was an even fight all the way up to the very end,” Coppell softball coach Ashley Minnick said. “The last inning when we were at bat, we had to go hard and score more runs in order to feel more comfortable and we did that. I think we executed that very well.” 

Coppell won, 9-7, in last night’s game at Coppell ISD Baseball/Softball Complex in District 6-6A action. . 

In the bottom of the fourth inning, Coppell was one run down as Erichson stood on third base with junior right fielder Sabina Frosk on second. Junior first baseman Emily Fischetti stepped up with an RBI, allowing Coppell to take the lead, 6-5. 

“It takes a lot of work and really this season has come through for me,” Fischetti said. “I might not get a hit, but getting an RBI has really impacted my team and goes to show that hard work pays off.” 

Lewisville responded with two steals to home from senior Jadyn Grandison and junior Rylee Brice at the top of the seventh inning, making the score 9-7 with Coppell leading by two. 

“I knew they were going to do that,” Minnick said. “They have some quick girls and they were going to take advantage of their speed and that’s just something we’ve worked on this whole week. But at the end of the day, we answered back.”
